Monko ( Listening to Incense ) Course


Monko, literally 'listening to incense', is to focus on and appreciate the fragrance of incense with a calm and peaceful mind.
Participants could be introduced to the deep and subtle fragrance of incense wood and the world of Kodo (incense ceremony) in the workshops at Yamadamatsu's Kyoto store.

Workshops are by reservation only.
Reservation must be made at least one business day ahead.

Please be informed that applications may not be accepted if the workshop is fully booked. Also, workshops may be closed for special events.





 

Monko Workshop

In this workshop, participants could experience the fragrances of precious Kyara and aloeswood through incense-comparing games.
Incense woods and method of Monko will be introduced. Novices are welcomed as well.
Participants will sit at tables without worrying about physical discomfort caused by sitting in seiza style.
*Since the fragrances of incense woods are delicately subtle, please do not wear any perfume or cologne to the workshop.

Workshop days: Monday - Saturday (except national holiday)
Reservation is required at least one business day ahead.

Sanshuko (three-round incense game)

Monko Practice Workshop

Monko is to focus on and appreciate the fragrance of incense with a calm and peaceful mind.
In this workshop, monko procedures such as preparing censer and heating incense wood will be introduced to participants.
Recommend to participants who have participated in Monko Workshop or would like to do Monko at home.
Green tea and Yamadamatsu's original dessert will be served after the workshop.
Participants will sit at a table without worrying about physical discomfort caused by sitting in seiza style.
*Since the fragrances of incense woods are delicately subtle, please do not wear any perfume or cologne to the workshop.

Workshop days: Monday - Friday (except national holiday)
Reservation is required but non-appointment participants could be accepted if there were vacancies.
